Module Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful of this module, I was able to
- Describe the development of the main strands of western architecture over the last 200 years.
- Identify some of the issues involved in the interrelationship between theory and design as exemplified in various historical periods and places.
- Interpret architectural language in relation to the development of Western architecture between Industrial Revolution and post World War 2.
- Differentiate the way in which many varied factors contribute to the development of form.
- Compare how architects have used architectural language in various historical periods and places.
- Analyze the broad issues which inform the development of architecture between Industrial Revolution and post World War 2.
Architecture Culture & History 2 [ARC 60203] is a continuation of the investigation of architecture history development that began in Architecture Culture & History 1 [ARC 1313]. The lectures provided detailed accounts of the principal developments in the Western world from the revolutionary period to the present day. Buildings will be explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents. In this module, we had undertake a major research of a significant building, complete with investigation of the major influences that led to its development and in turn its influence in other architectural aspects. The lectures and projects are tailored to support the need of Architectural Design Studio 2 in timely manner to ensure that the students can identify specific features of Modern Masters prior to the design process in the Studio Design 2.
The objective of this model is to deepen our understanding of architectural theory through a consideration of intentions, concepts, patterns, disciplines, architectural language and contextual relationships. Also, help us to examine a detailed account of the principal developments in the western world from the Industrial Revolution to post-World War 2.
INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE CULTURE AND HISTORY 2

In this project, we were required to form a group of 5. Each group chose one architect from the given list by our lecturer, Ms Ita, and there were maximum of 4 groups for each architect. Then, we chose a building which designed by that architect and conduct architectural analysis on the selected building. The chosen building and architect was related to our project of Architecture Design Studio 2.
For my group, there are 5 group members: Eelyn Cheong Siew Ying, Chia Wee Min, Teoh Hui Yu, Wong Voon Yin and me. Our assigned architect is Le Corbusier with his masterpiece - Villa La Roche. As a group, we were required to produce an A2 presentation board which included a short introduction the architect and the brief history about the building. Meanwhile, as individual for further understanding about the architecture language and design concept of Le Corbusier and meaning of each building components related to its site context, we have to research the details of every specific part of the building and write the information as a report with sketches into an A4. For me as individual, the task I have done is building components/ elements of Villa La Roche.
In this project, I have learnt the method of research in every source such as books and internet while filtered the true evidence and details. Besides, I have learned the factors that would affect the exterior and interior design of the building in order to put the most suitable part of the building components where every designs have its reasons which related to its site context but not only the spaces used and requirement of clients. Furthermore, I have understand more deeper about the modern master's view to break the tradition in order to build a more simple life style for people to live as Le Corbusier described the use of house as a "Machine For Living".

PROJECT 1 OUTCOMES PRECEDENT STUDIES
This project one is to examine and increase understanding on the principles, ideas and contributing factors that shaped Modern architecture as the evolution of architecture was very rapid and revolutionary during Modern Masters perios as compares to other perios. The project gave us the opportunity to work with a group of peers toanalyse and identify specific architectural features in terms of space planning, technology, details, form and the aesthetics of the architecture of Modern Masters. Also, the project allowed us to be able to create understanding in your audience visually by composing factual information and descriptive sketches on a presentation board with evidence and specific reference.

PROJECT 2 OUTCOMES WEB-BOOK
In this project, we were required to form a group of 5 to conduct a research to document the architectural analysis on a selected building. We were responsible to ensure that the building is in a good shape and easily accessible. The process of liaising and follow up with authorities may take time depends on the selection of building whether in government or private. Therefore, we have select some buildings for backup plan and we were encourage to choose our own modern buildings around Klang Valley.
For my group, there are 5 group members: Eelyn Cheong Siew Ying, Chia Wee Min, Teoh Hui Yu, Wong Voon Yin and me. There are 3 building we had chosen, which are DBKL building (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) as main choice, General Hospital and Angkasapuri building as backup plan buildings. However, Angkasapuri building becomes our chosen building. As a group, we were required to produce a web-book by using ISSU, an online-magazine alike-website, with a short introduction the architect and the brief history about the building. Meanwhile, as individual for further research which carried individual marks, each of group members required to choose their own topic in the web-book as
Wee Min - building concept,
Hui Yu - architecture style,
Eelyn - building construction,
Voon Yin - building materials
while me (Zi Cin) - building components.
Each of us has to find out the details of every specific part of the building and write the information as a report with drawings and real evidences from every source found. The individual topic was then compiled by Voon Yin by using InDesign software from Microsoft Power Point.
In this project, I have learnt the method of research and citation in every source such as books and internet while filtered the true evidence and details. Besides, I have learned the factors that would affect the exterior and interior design of the building due to the factor of climate in Malaysia while combine with architecture from other country. Also, I have learned the way on how to communicate with the government authorities from my group member in order to get the permission for visit. Besides, I also proud of my group members with the spirit of teamwork to settle every problem we faced while searching for building that can be accessible and difficulties of information found by group members where helps a lot in research. Last but not least, I can identify the buildings with different periods of era in Malaysia especially during the colonial era where the architecture where developing and flourish in our country.

Klang Valley is a rich source of architectural heritage dated from pre-colonial, colonial, post-independence until present times. The historical richness creates a very vibrant architectural fabric. The modern architecture emerges rapidly from 1950’s to 1970’s as the economic growth spurs. This follows the international style that spreads across the world in 1930’s to 50’s. However, many historical modernist buildings may face risk of being demolished to make way for more contemporary buildings. Thus, by recording and documenting the buildings, we can contribute to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable Modern Architecture in Klang Valley. The findings are to be compiled in essays and to be submitted using a web book platform. Web book is a publication in digital form, consisting of text (report), images, or both. From this project, we will be able to understand deeper on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of Modern Architecture in Klang Valley while document architectural heritage in the form of writings, descriptive diagrams and photography in order to create a web book as a mean to publish academic materials .
