TAN ZI CIN'S E-PORTFOLIO

PROJECT MANAGEMENT (MGT 60403/ARC 3614)
This project which to understand the application of management techniques in the control and direction of project resources which is needed for project management in the future real project environment.
In this project with a group of 6, we were assigned with different roles which involved in the construction industry: Architect, Civil & Structure Engineer, Mechanical & Electrical Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Landscape Architect, and Interior Designer with a task given to design and manage simple construction projects in a way that emphasis COST, QUALITY or TIME, with a measurable 'success criteria'. Through this project, there are 4 components to be included in the report: Introduction of the project, Design Proposal and Project Proposal, Project scheduling & monitoring with Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Gantt Chart, and Minutes of Meeting with meeting agendas. Meanwhile, we also required being involved in 6 mock client-consultant meeting(CCM) where our performance will be assessed each week.

Project Learning Outcomes
From this project, we have learned to apply project management tools and techniques to control and communicate to achieve a common goal by defining the characteristics, objectives, organisations and success factors of the project. Besides, we are able to summarise strategies for the execution of the development process in response to the client's objectives.
Project Learning Outcomes
From this project, we have learned to identify of basic structural systems in construction and compare them. Besides, we were able to differentiate solid, skeletal and surface construction systems in terms of loads and forces acting on structural elements. Moreover, we can recognize and apply the implications of construction system in design while analyse the issues of strength and stbility of structures including modes of structural system, forces, stress and strain and laws of static. For myself, I was very enjoy this project and learnt new methods in model making from my groupmates. It is a very fresh experience for me and I would apply them in my future designs.
Project 2 Understanding Forces in Solid Construction and Surface Construction
report (group)
In this project with group of 5, my group members are Eelyn Cheong Siew Ying, Chia Wee Min, Teoh Hui Yu, Wong Voon Yin and me (Tan Zi Cin). we were required to propose a building and ensure the building used 2 differnet types of structural system by identify the building. then, we need to prepare an A4 booklet complete with diagrams, sketches and drawings which included function, material and load distribution of structure system, details of building nad modelling process. Our chosen buidling is Centre Pompidou Metz in Paris.
In individual part, I was required to do a 2D details drawing in an A3 paper to show understanding on ways of building constructed in sections and isonometrics.
This project is aimed to create an understanding of solid strcture and surface and its relevant structural components while understanding the reaction under loading. Besides, to demonstrate a convincing understanding on ways of solid construction and surface construction works. Moreover, the project allowed students to exploit the qualities inherent in solid construction and surface construction while enable students to manipulate solid construction and surface construction to solve an oblique design problem.
