This project which to demonstrate a convincing understanding of how Skeletal Construction works and its relevant structural components also understand the reaction of loading. Besides, the project enable students to manipulate Skeletal Construction to solve an oblique design problem.

In this project with group of 5, my group members are Eelyn Cheong Siew Ying, Chia Wee Min, Teoh Hui Yu, Wong Voon Yin and me (Tan Zi Cin). we were required to construct a shelter elevated at least 5 inches from the ground with scale 1:1 to fit for one person in a sitting position in max. height 1.5m and max. base size of 0.75x0.75m. The construction and the structure of the shelter should show the appropriate joints, materials and components which are light and portable, resistant to ourdoor weather ad eas access. The shelter will have a load test with weight of 60kg for 2 minutes. in addition, we need to produce an A3 bound report completed with analysis of design, construction progress, joints/construction diagrams and sketches.

Project Learning Outcomes

From this project, we have learned to recognize the implication of construction system and apply them in design which is skeletal structure where it is widely apply in nowadays architecture for contemporary purposes. Also, we were able to analyse the issues of strength and stbility of structures including modes of structural system, forces, stress and strain and laws of static. Besides, we have more understaing on the types and the ways of load transfer of a structure  through constructions and joints along with chosen recycleable materials. Although the day before the submission was just right after the sudio site visit, but I was glad that our group were able to complete this project.

Project Learning Outcomes

From this project, we have learned to identify of basic structural systems in construction and compare them. Besides, we were able to differentiate solid, skeletal and surface construction systems in terms of loads and forces acting on structural elements. Moreover, we can recognize and apply the implications of construction system in design while analyse the issues of strength and stbility of structures including modes of structural system, forces, stress and strain and laws of static. For myself, I was very enjoy this project and learnt new methods in model making from my groupmates. It is a very fresh experience for me and I would apply them in my future designs.

Project 2 Understanding Forces in Solid Construction and Surface Construction
report (group)

In this project with group of 5, my group members are Eelyn Cheong Siew Ying, Chia Wee Min, Teoh Hui Yu, Wong Voon Yin and me (Tan Zi Cin). we were required to propose a building and ensure the building used 2 differnet types of structural system by identify the building. then, we need to prepare an A4 booklet complete with diagrams, sketches and drawings which included function, material and load distribution of structure system, details of building nad modelling process. Our chosen buidling is Centre Pompidou Metz in Paris.

In individual part, I was required to do a 2D details drawing in an A3 paper to show understanding on ways of building constructed in sections and isonometrics.

This project is aimed to create an understanding of solid strcture and surface and its relevant structural components while understanding the reaction under loading. Besides, to demonstrate a convincing understanding on ways of solid construction and surface construction works. Moreover, the project allowed students to exploit the qualities inherent in solid construction and surface construction while enable students to manipulate solid construction and surface construction to solve an oblique design problem.
