COFFEE TABLE BOOK
PROJECT 3
CULTURE AND CIVILISATIONS (FDES 0815)
TUTOR: IDA MARLINA MAZLAN
PART ONE - THE COFFEE TABLE BOOK
For this final project, there were 5 in a group and my group members were Vicky Lee, Felicia Tiong, Sean Wee, and Teoh Hui Yu. We were assigned to make a coffee table book with theme and concept about the culture and civilisation of a site route. Our group chose Penang as our site.
In this project, we had discussed on the theme that we should do and separated the work individually according our own topic and location in Penang, and then we visited Penang for 2 days to capture the photos related to our own theme which was about the heritage of Penang.
After visited our site route and capture the photos, we had to compile our individual work together and make them into a moodboard as it was the progress in making an outstanding coffee table book. Our theme was named as 'Penang - A Walk Down Memory Lane'.
In this project, I have realized the important of knowledge in using software to edit the photos since I was not familiar on using Photoshop and it was a tough work for me as I had to edit the photos using Microsoft PowerPoint. Also, since this is the first time our group make the coffee table book, the skill on measuring the size of photos is very important as we had to create an A5 book digitally. Besides, I had more understand the culture of Penang and skills of observation on finding the right angle of view to capture a photo. The most important is I had realized the important of teamwork and communicate with my group members. Even the process in doing the coffee book table was tough, I still enjoyed the fun and conscious of the communication skill in a team.

PART TWO - INDIVIDUAL JOURNAL
In the Coffee Book Table, there are 5 topics compiled to become one theme: vintage, indulgence, tranquillity, aesthetics and faith. The topic I have done was faith.
Faith was actually related with our thought and belief on ourselves to pass through the tough moment. It also related with the religion we believe on, learning the guidance from the religion in solving the problems in our lives. From this part, I have captured the photos in some religious buildings and chose some of them into the coffee table book were meant to bring the message on the strong bonding between God and human. Even the races and religions of human are different, their belief on God would never go down. The most important is I found that the citizens in Penang will always pray to their God even in usually days besides of festival, make me to respect their pious spirit on religion. Also, I realised that most of the religious buildings in Penang had about 200 years of history, understood that different religious buildings were not only have their unique architecture but is the unreplaceable belief of people on them to remain the original appearance of buildings.
